It’s Spring! Are you seeing growth in your finances?

Yes, spring has arrived! Much of Australia does not experience a dramatic transition from winter to spring. Many of the trees in our parks and gardens are evergreen so we don’t watch them lose all their leaves or get covered in snow, or eagerly wait for new green shoots to appear in spring.

Yet there is still something about spring that we love. We think of flowers blooming, of new growth and of new life. In some rural areas, spring means lambing season, or new calves and other new offspring. Others around our island continent are more focused on braving the beach again. We slip off those winter coats and bare paler winter skin to sun and sand.

Do you know that a huge majority of weddings are planned for spring? It is a time when we look to the future with hope. It is a time to aim for new things and dream. So, what are you looking forward to and aiming for in the future? And will your finances, now and into the future, support those dreams?

How can you achieve those dreams?

  1. Take stock of your financial situation as it is now.

  2. Write down what dreams you want to see realised and by when.

  3. Create a plan to ensure you have the finances to achieve those things.

  4. Activate the plan and persevere to see your dreams realised.

What is the current state of your finances?

Now is the perfect time to take stock of your current financial situation so you know where are starting from. Are you seeing growth in your finances and investments? Or is your financial situation more like that of a bear that has just emerged from winter hibernation, depleted and lean and hungry?

What are your dreams?

Write a list of what you want to achieve in the short term and in the longer term. Perhaps consider where you wish to be in one year, and five years and ten years. This will be different for each one of us. Maybe you are starting a family and need a new house or a car or are contemplating sending your children to a private school or to university? Or maybe you have an empty nest and are looking forward to retirement? Perhaps you want to travel or start a new business? What do you dream about?

Plan to have the finances to achieve those dreams.

This is something you don’t need to do on your own. Talk to an experienced professional financial planner and they will provide financial advice that is customised for you based on your specific situation, your objectives and your preferences. They can provide you with options that you may not even have thought of and be a sounding board for your ideas. So, no matter what your current financial situation is, whether depleted and lean or with a little padding, now is the time to take stock of your situation. And now is the time to plan for new growth and to ensure you will have the finances to support you and your dreams, now and into the future.
